Dr. Riess was one of the 1,591 physicians worldwide recognized during a recent ceremony. Becoming a fellow means the surgeon's education and training, professional qualifications, surgical competence and ethical conduct have passed a rigorous evaluation.
“Becoming a fellow is a pledge to treat each patient as I would wish to be treated if I were in the patient’s position,” Dr. Riess says. “Being recognized by the American College of Surgeons as a fellow is an honor in that it means you’ve met the stringent standards of the college’s principles and regulations.”
Dr. Riess, who practices in Virginia and Aurora, received his medical degree in 2003 from the University of Minnesota. In 2009, he was board certified by the American Board of Surgery. He has a strong interest in minimally invasive surgery, breast surgery and general surgery. He also holds memberships in the Minnesota Surgical Society, the American Society of Breast Surgeons and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.
Dr. Riess has now earned the right to include the designation FACS (Fellow, American College of Surgeons) after his name.
