LE SUEUR, Minn. -- Minnesota Valley Health Center, which is part of Essentia Health, recently received a five-star rating by U.S. News & World Report in its annual listing of the nation’s best nursing homes.
“Only 82 nursing homes in Minnesota earned a five-star ranking from the federal government's Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services,” said MVHC Administrator Dori Mutch, who also serves as executive director of senior services. “This is based on completely objective data gathered during health inspections, our nursing staff and the quality of our medical care.”
U.S. News & World Report recognizes top-rated nursing homes in all 50 states and offers important guidance to families and healthcare providers caring for people in need of a nursing home. Of the more than 15,500 homes rated and profiled on the U.S. News website, MVHC was among the fewer than 1 in 8 that received a five-star overall rating in all four quarters of 2011.
“I am very proud to be a part of this customer- and resident-centered organization,” Mutch said. “This ranking is a testament to the dedication and forward-thinking of our long-term care team. I'm so proud of our organization’s commitment to creating an environment of continuous quality improvement … Our senior services professionals truly hold resident-centered care in the highest of esteem.”
U.S. News’s evaluation of nursing homes is based on data from Nursing Home Compare, a consumer website run by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
“More than 3 million Americans will spend part of 2012 in a nursing home, and trying to decide which one is best isn’t easy,” said Avery Comarow, the magazine’s health rankings editor. “Top-rated nursing homes are worth considering and deserve special recognition.”
